Updating the Windows componants was merely a way of 'fixing' any background bugs. At this point I'm unable to suitably explain why it isn't working because it SHOULD be working.Ī fresh installation and patching with GFWL pretty much assures that. Since GFWL (did you use the link I provided - its the newest) has not recognized the game there problem might be in your registry and sorting that out is a job I only ever issue to people with the rank of "demi-god" as the wrong thing being pulled may screw up your OS and nobody wants that. Sadly no and if there was it might be millions of entries long. Now with that lot in place, it SHOULD run.

If the game still fails to load, its time for a complete deletion and download/installation of the games - both of them - and then after that has been done, download and install the GFWL app: - as you already have an existing XBOX login don't worry about making one when prompted. Then just to confirm that the game has not been corrupted check the file intergrity and try it again. You may also need to install Java (but I'm just playing it safe).

Can you please download and install the latest DirectX driver package, and Visual C++ components. I'm tempting to say that something somewhere isn't working as it should and this in turn is causing GTA-IV/EFLC to crash on startup. I just want to sort this out so that you can get the game running.įirst things first - do you have any mods whatsoever on either of the games? These can dramatically change the way the source code works and break the games. Sadly due to the highly unpredictable nature of hardware/software interactions it is not always possible to make 'generic advice' work for everyone. BUT that said, there are some Windows 7 OS instances where issues due to software incompatability will lead to some weird effects, including crashes occur.

OK, under Windows 7 its as simple as applying the GFWL patch, checking you have the latest graphics card drivers and thats it - no other messing around required at all.

NOT on some cloud - this is a ten year old game we're talking about here that existed long before there was a cloud so all saves are done locally. NOTE: your save games and key binding data is in the following folder: C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames\user_ - if you have several long numbers, just open the folders one by one until you find a file called ControlMap.dat and this is where GTA-IV, The Lost and Damned, and The Ballard of Gay Tony saves the game. (5) Set the options for the game, video, screen resolution, controls (if necessary) and then play. Please be advised that after patching with the application I mentioned here the loading screens will be displayed, you will hear the GTA-IV theme tune wherein the screen will then go black for about one minute and then the Rockstar Games Social Club loading screen will appear.

Once you have patched GTA-IV, if you also have EFLC, it will automatically patch that too. For example, I have a decade-old GFWL account and the server allowed me to login without any issues, but a lot of people have found that their GFWL login no longer works, so make a new XBOX one. (3) When prompted for a login, you can choose to ignore or to create a new XBOX account. (2) Install - this patches the games so that the old Games For Windows Live (GFWL) login is upgraded so it now connects to the XBOX server which replaced it. (1) Do a fresh install of GTA-IV or ELFC (or both) - ignore this if the installation is fresh and has no mods.
